Jet Flights See one of world’s most beautiful cities from the cockpit of a jet fighter. Cape Town has it all: beaches, mountains, gardens, animals, and now the world’s only flying Lightning and Buccaneer!
Strap yourself into a Mach 2 English Electric Lightning and climb 60 000 feet closer to heaven in just over a minute. Scream out over the Atlantic at 650 mph in a Buccaneer. Take a g-pulling aerobatic flight in a Hawker Hunter.
Thunder City operates the world’s only twin-engine two-seater supersonic interceptor, the English Electric Lightning. Two Rolls Royce Avon 302 turbojets power this amazing aircraft. The Lightning still holds a number of world climb-to-altitude records and is known for its vertical climb performance, capable of a speed of Mach 2.2 (1 500 mph), and an Initial climb rate of 50 000 ft/min.
The British Aerospace Buccaneers are only flown from Thunder City. This tandem two-seat aggressor is designed for low-level, high-speed attack. Powered by two Rolls Royce Spey non-afterburning bypass turbofans, these awesome machines perform just below the speed of sound at zero altitude.
The Hawker Hunter was originally designed as a superior air fighter which, due to its versatility, was easily adapted for air-to-ground attack and reconnaissance flights. Its an exceptionally agile two-seater air combat trainer. Thunder City has four two-seater Hunters that can be used for training, aerobatics, low flying and general flying. Powered by the Avon 122 series turbojet, this immaculate aircraft allows you to experience high ‘g’ adrenalin performance.
Your training includes full briefings on the cockpit management, ejection seat training, oxygen management and other pertinent information to enhance the experience. All necessary flying kit and equipment supplied.
